ABSTRACT
Motivation for the Fromelles project came from Australian civilians, concerned that 1,294 Australian soldiers from the Battle of Fromelles (July 19–20, 1916) remained missing (as well as missing British soldiers—hereafter the Missing). Research led to the identification of a burial site south of Pheasant Wood, Fromelles, near Lille, northeastern France (Steel 2010).
