ABSTRACT

A new meaning of space and time is becoming an important issue in society and in research. It is clear to most observers the world has shrunk astonishingly in evident size driven by rapid and sustained advances in transportation, telecommunications, and information technology. There are always emerging networks and nodes of different networks that form a bridge between the local and global levels. It is true, however, that although the nation state is unable to control the content of messages being transmitted, it can continue to exercise a type of control by limiting the techniques of communications and the technologies used to make the connections. This type of exercise can still be done using the political and military power of the nation state. Due to developments in technologies, the nation state is losing ever so gradually its control over networks.
