ABSTRACT

Figure 14.1 is a flowchart of seven project processes associated with our SCM Task 3 Forging Supply Chain Partnerships. Chapter 13 described processes for alignment of internal functions. This chapter moves outside the four walls of the organization. The project property “progressive elaboration” works with a vengeance in the processes that will be covered in this chapter. Arguably, one has a greater control over its own operations. However, it may have little or no influence over what partners will do, won’t do, or are even able to do. A whole lot depends on the degree to which the company and its trading partners have embraced the seven core SCM principles described in Section 2.1. This chapter takes the perspective of a sponsoring company along the chain who has initiated the supply chain project. Until the sponsoring company presents its upstream and downstream partners with a proposal, it won’t know for sure what it can or cannot accomplish if their cooperation is required.
