ABSTRACT

In the relatively short period of time from 1981 to the present, automated lighting has gained tremendous popularity in the entertainment and “architainment” lighting industries. What began mostly as a concert and touring phenomenon quickly gained acceptance in nightclubs and discotheques throughout the world, where technology is often embraced and nurtured. Once it was proven that automated lighting could meet certain criteria for noise, intensity, and reliability, it slowly found applications in Broadway, off-Broadway, and other theatre applications across the spectrum. Now automated lighting has permeated almost every aspect of theatrical lighting, including television and fi lm, cruise ships, houses of worship, and retail environments.
