ABSTRACT

From a business perspective, business ethics can be defined as the collective values of the employees of the firm in determining whether the actions of individuals within the firm are acceptable and appropriate. Business ethics is important to study because there will be circumstances where employees may be asked to perform a task or action which could challenge the values and ethical beliefs of the individual. The behavior of the individual when making an unethical decision is the focus of different types of ethical examinations. Teleological frameworks are composed of three components: ethical egoism, utilitarianism, and Sidgwick's dualism. The focus of utilitarianism is the net result of the cumulative actions of all instead of the examining the individual motives that created the decision for their actions.
