ABSTRACT

At the start of the session the facilitator welcomes all the students to the group. At the outset the facilitator begins by reading out the rules of the group and prompting students to remember how they have agreed to function in order to ensure that everyone’s learning is both safe and productive. The facilitator asks the students to feed back on the previous take home tasks. The subsequent activity is the warm-up activity which takes the form of Circle Time rounds. The activity aims to encourage students to consider how crime is glamorised in the media. The aim of this activity is for students to consider ten scenarios representing various forms of media. The primary task provides students with examples of phrases that may be regarded as sensationalist and asks them to find a better alternative from a given list.
