ABSTRACT

It is a truism to state that the pace of change has accelerated over recent years and it is highly unlikely that it will slow down. It is also clear that, as we have illustrated, the issue of ethics in corporate governance is also receiving increasing attention. This creates new opportunities for directors that include:

• the need to take an increasingly dynamic approach to risk; • the need for increasing attention to cyber security; • the need to develop new skills through education and retraining in

order to cope with change; • the need to handle escalating challenges relating to the economics

and scale of infrastructure; • international trade and political volatility with shifting alliances and

trading opportunities; • health and safety issues that concern not only today but carry poten-

tial liability for negative effects over the very long term; • dealing with disruptive technologies and approaches.
