ABSTRACT

Back in the early days of Pong, the development process was simple because one person was usually responsible for the design, code, and art of a game. Financing is an important part of the game production process. While it is possible to create and release a successful game on a shoestring budget, or just on pure grit alone, financing can make the process much easier. Investors exchange capital for equity in the game. This means that they own a percentage of the game sales, with the hope that the sales will pay back their investment, plus more. Internal development teams are typically responsible for creating the blockbuster games, while independent game developers may get publisher funding to create some of the other games. A subscription-based game is one where players are charged a monthly fee to access the game content. Downloadable Content is when additional content is created for a released game.
