ABSTRACT
According to the confidential documents of the Noble Committee (N.C.), Gandhi was nominated by E. G. Balch, C. S. Oftedal, F. Castberg, American Friends Service Committee, H. Schneider–University of Columbia, and M. Duverger–University of Bordeaux. There can be little doubt but that Gandhi's fast was a major, if not decisive, contribution to laying the foundation for a general and peaceful settlement of the bloody mass struggles. F. Castberg nominated Gandhi for his lifelong efforts for the peaceful settlement of serious international conflicts and above all, his marvellous attitude to conflicts in India in his last years. Gandhi gave his life for his ideals. Nobel Peace Prize Committee might well consider awarding the Nobel Peace Prize for 1948 posthumously to Mr. Gandhi. The N.C. was told by Kishorelal Mashruwala that Sarvodaya Samaj was a conglomeration of organizations and institutions whose aim was to pursue Gandhi's ideas.
