ABSTRACT
Recall the main claim presented in Chapter 17: that representative institutions were the product of a conditional relationship. More specifically, I have argued that representative institutions arose and later became institutionalized as a result of the onset of generalized geopolitical pressure in a context characterized by multiple autonomous social groups, whereas a similar geopolitical pressure in contexts not characterized by a multiplicity of autonomous groups instead worked to intensify absolutism.
