ABSTRACT

The social workers were care managers, carrying out an assessment, care planning, monitoring and review role for adult care services provision. The manager was responsible for a team of social workers fulfilling this role in a hospital setting. This chapter details two groups to engage in a co-operative inquiry process: hospital group and community group. Both groups progressed through cycles of action and reflection - eight in all - using a variety of methods for investigating the action being taken, and forms of recording to be used in the action phase. The aims of the cycles of action and reflection were much the same for both the author and other participants. The importance of reflection in and upon action had been established as a key to the maintenance of, and the continuing development of good practice in the light of new circumstances - such as the introduction of new policy or procedure.
