ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a number of general issues and specific details that are relevant to the development of simulations. The amount of fidelity in a simulation refers to how much the simulation resembles what actually occurs in the organization. If the simulation is being used for training purposes then high levels of all aspects of fidelity may be appropriate. The simulation developer will have to make decisions about what level of fidelity is appropriate for each assessment situation. Deciding to use separate or integrated simulations depends on several factors, including the resources available to develop the simulations, the competencies to be assessed, the purpose of the assessment, the nature of the target job, and a consideration of the advantages and disadvantages of each approach. The best way to screen for inappropriate language is to have someone not connected with the simulation development efforts read all the simulation materials.
