ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a general overview of the organizational structure of the Rastafari movement. It considers the polycephalous (heterogeneous) structure of the movement, and specifically that it is constituted by various mansions and houses (which may be considered to be equivalent to the various denominations that exist in the world religion of Christianity). It also considers the various attempts at centralization of the movement that have occurred over the course of the movement’s existence, with a detailed look at two umbrella organizations that were key so far as the movement in Jamaica is concerned; specifically the Rastafari Centralization Organization (RCO) and the Ethio-Africa Diaspora Union Millennium Council (EADUMC), popularly referred to as the Millennium Council for short.
