ABSTRACT
The Imperial Ottoman Bank was established by the signing in Istanbul on 4 February 1863 of an agreement between the Ottoman Empire’s highest authorities and the French and English representatives of the bank’s founders. The agreement gave the founders the exclusive right to issue notes in the imperial territories for thirty years and was immediately ratified by the sultan Abd-ul-Aziz.
