ABSTRACT

The use of genetic diversity to form modern crops is one of the most remarkable accomplishments of agriculture. Even in the age of genomics, genetic diversity remains the cornerstone of crop improvement. It is clear that further crop improvement is required to meet the future needs of society and will be founded upon extensive utilization of the world’s genetic resources. This review of genetic diversity is written to high light the challenges that must be met so that breeders can efficiently and fully use genetic diversity to meet future needs.
