ABSTRACT
Professor Gennadi E. Zaikov, DSc, was bom on January 7, 1935 in Omsk in the family of a military officer and school teacher. He finished secondary school in Omsk in 1952 and entered the Chemistry Department of Moscow State University (MSU), as an undergraduate in December 1957 and gained a first class BSc degree. Professor Zaikov started his scientific research in the Isotope Separation Unit of the MSU, of which Professor Georgii M. Panchenkov was Head. In 1966 G. E. Zaikov extend his research interest to Polymer Ageing and Stabilisation. Since 1967 he has held the position of Head of the Laboratory of Chemical Stability of Polymers. He became the Deputy of Professor Emanuel in the Division of Polymer Ageing in the Institute of Chemical Physics. He has been the Chairman of a number of local and international conferences on Degradation and Stabilisation of Polymers, Flammability of Polymeric Materials.
