ABSTRACT

In the design and construction of structures it becomes necessary to consider the geological structure of the site, the kind of soil and its properties. In addition, one must also draw attention to geodynamical processes which can develop on the construction site. Geodynamical processes arise as a result of natural, geological, hydrogeological and geomorphological peculiarities of the site. Geodynamics largely affects the transformation of coastlines, lakes, reservoirs and rivers, the generation of mud flows and slope processes. A considerable role is also played by phenomena associated with groundwater movement such as suffusion, boils, etc. Construction works, structures and their operation can in turn give rise to some geodynamical processes capable of interfering with the environment and of bringing damage and failure to the constructed structures. Since the measures taken to increase the strength and stability of structures in the case of seismic effects make the construction more costly, the selection of construction site is of particular importance.
