ABSTRACT

This article presents a new way to obtain a local characterisation of granular media in situ. It consists in linking mechanical information collected from a fine cone penetrometric test with the morphological information obtained from images recorded with an endoscope. First of all, a description and the principle of each technique used (penetrometric test and geoendoscopy) is presented. Then we discuss the different characteristics, which can be obtained from these tests. At last we demonstrate the interest of this linkage as well as the different future development offer by this technique.
