292 293 As is the case with most things, the initial reason for learning silver gelatin emulsion making is not the direction in which I am currently moving. I attended a workshop at the George Eastman House in Rochester with the intention of learning the process so that I could produce my own bromoil paper. Someday I may again try to get to that point, but for now the ability to make my own paper works hand in glove with my current project of photographing the neighborhoods of Baltimore. It is incredibly frustrating (emulsion separating from the paper, fogging, etc.) but when I get a good sheet of paper that reflects the digital negative’s intention then it is well worth the effort—nobody ever said that something worthwhile would be easy.
