ABSTRACT
This paper presents an appraisal of the stability of the submarine slope of the Marlim Field in past ages. The probable trigger mechanism of the slope is presented, and is associated with the effect of glaciation. Simulations of the slope movement by creep are presented, demonstrating that the proposed trigger mechanism fits into the simulated temporal window. In light of the geological and geotechnical evidence the risk of new mass movements in the region at the present moment is assessed.
