ABSTRACT

A new housing market is emerging in Australia, targeted at the good life for life after 50: Active Adult (age segregated) Lifestyle Communities (AALCs). Baby Boomers are the intended residents of these developments, which are designed specifically to foster health and wellbeing of older adults though the provision of environments that promote active lifestyles. Many existing suburban landscapes are not conducive to achieving this imperative. This chapter critiques this trend especially in relation to questions around ethics, affordability and location.
