It depends on what went at the front. If your essay is going well so far, then what has to go in the middle should be clear from the plan (Chapter 7) and the introduction (Chapter 9) that you have already written. Like most academic tasks, the hardest and most important part of essay writing is the preparation. Once the groundwork is done, finishing the job should be relatively simple. If, for reasons we probably don’t want to know about, you are trying to write the

middle bit of an essay that doesn’t already have a plan and an introduction, stop it. It’s not going to work. What goes in the middle depends on what went at the front.
