ABSTRACT

Short term: the superstore site, in keeping with the big-box program, is a superblock with a large, open parking lot. The context is largely undeveloped waterfront. A major connecting corridor is as yet undeveloped. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9780429489280/0a90c18b-b9dd-42df-a7b2-d44fa661c6b3/content/unfig180_1_C.tif" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/> This design study focuses on the issues and opportunities associated with the industrial shed and the capacity of these kinds of structures to accommodate multiple programs over time. Intermediate term: the “big box” is now a warehousing and distribution facility for a variety of small and medium-sized manufacturers. The block-and-street pattern is re-imposed as other medium-sized manufacturers begin to fill in the parking lot. The waterfront context and the major street corridor are starting to be redeveloped. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9780429489280/0a90c18b-b9dd-42df-a7b2-d44fa661c6b3/content/unfig181_1_C.tif" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
