ABSTRACT

While in all previous chapters all the cracks are considered either stationary or moving with uniform velocity, in this Chapter the case of an accelerating crack problem is considered under arbitrary loading. The accelerating crack problem is discussed following the ingenious method developed by Kostrov. In the case of general loading after a judicious use of the Wiener-Hopf factorisation in an isotropic case, the solution based on the corresponding anti-plane shear crack is set up. The fracture criterion is defined.
