ABSTRACT
The College of Agriculture, Purdue University has a long tradition of overseas collaborative research and institution building in developing countries ranging from Brazil, Honduras, and now Afghanistan, Niger and Burkina Faso. Lacking was participation of its students in any type of overseas study. In 1990, the college made a decision to make an overseas academic experience a priority for all graduating students. The goal was 10 per cent student participation by 1995; this was increased to 20 per cent by 2005. In 2006-07, 25.4 per cent of undergraduates participated. The College of Agriculture’s international programme leads Purdue University in these experiences.
