ABSTRACT

Giraut de Bomeil had departed from the court of the good King Anfos of Castille. The King had given him a very fine gray saddle horse along with many other presents and all the barons of his court had given him great gifts. And Giraut was off to Gascogne and was to pass through the territory of the King of Navarre. Now that King knew all about how rich Giraut was and that he would be passing through his lands at the border of Castille and Aragon and Navarre and so he had him robbed. He took all his equipment, kept as his own the gray horse, and left the other riches to the robbers who had done the job. This is why Giraut composed this song which says:
