ABSTRACT
Apparently, Guangdong ORFOCA’s efforts to link up with famous overseas persons originating from the province brought handsome results. In 1993, the provincial Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs assisted the conclusion of fourteen investment projects amounting to US$380 million. In 1994, the Office facilitated the signing of nine investment projects valued at over 10 billion yuan (Guangdong Qiaobao, 8 December 1995). From 1991 to 1994, Offices of Overseas Chinese Affairs at various levels in Guangdong invited 4,091 experts in science and technology to visit Guangdong; and the provincial Office invited 59 such individuals to engage in academic exchanges with their counterparts in the province (Guangdong Qiaobao, 8 December 1995).
