ABSTRACT

In today’s health environment, being able to communicate effectively is of crucial importance for quality care delivery by the multidisciplinary team. The clinical environment is under constant time pressure, so communication must be clear, succinct and systematic. Collaboration in healthcare is evident when different health professionals take complementary roles, and work together as a team to achieve an optimal patient outcome. To achieve a collaborative health team, numerous barriers must be overcome. Effective teams demonstrate positive attributes in three key areas: team structure and organisational support, team processes and interactions and contribution by individual team members. On entering the workforce, as in other areas of people life, people will eventually encounter people with challenging behaviours. One of the key challenges people must overcome as a new graduate nurse is learning how to prioritise and complete necessary tasks in the management of people patient load.
