ABSTRACT

Jon Manis, CEO and Senior Vice President at Sutter Health in Sacramento California commented on his organization's cloud strategy by saying "We are using the cloud more and more, both for traditional workforce support applications like Microsoft Office and also for IT collaboration and communication tools. Within the healthcare industry specifically, adoption of cloud computing technologies have made significant inroads in several years. Many healthcare organizations also leverage SaaS for a number of key applications besides their EHR. These often include back-office applications such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) like SAP, Oracle, and Inform. A consumer can unilaterally provision computing capabilities, such as server time and network storage, as needed automatically without requiring human interaction with each service provider. While businesses and individual consumers alike have come to embrace the idea of cloud-based delivery of information services, the underlying technologies and types of cloud-based solutions may not be as clearly understood.
