ABSTRACT

Growth and change is what psychotherapy is all about. And because the therapeutic exchange is more intense than the average human interaction, the changes that take place are more powerful, affecting both the client and the therapist. When both individuals are truly involved in the therapeutic interaction then “the encounter between the two personalities is like the mixing of two chemical elements; if any reaction occurs, both are transformed” (Jacobi, 1964, p. 67, summarizing Jung’s thoughts).
