ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how to link the practices to the heart and soul of daily life. It has been shown that couple relationships flourish better and last longer if partners care about the ecosystem of their relationship and their shared needs, rather than the individual needs of their egosystems. However, not with ourselves as egosystems but as part of larger ecosystems. So far, the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programme offered many formal practices that we could do in the time we especially set aside for them. There were also informal practices such as the Calendar Exercises, the Breathing Spaces and the Self-Compassion Mantra. The chapter mainly focuses on motivation and wise compassionate action in daily life, contemplating how we care for ourselves and others, distinguishing draining from sustaining activities and recognising what serves the ecosystem rather than the ego-system. The formal practice can be a particularly good remedy against unhealthy feelings of envy and jealousy.
