ABSTRACT
The intervention activity utilizes a children's book with the theme of a hero's journey. Recognizing the critical need for establishing trust and rapport within the initial stage of group sessions, this activity is framed for working with children, and/or adolescents ages 7–16 years. As a biblio- and/or narrative-therapy intervention, the activity is relevant for application to the school counseling setting, integrating with comprehensive school counseling programs, such as the American School Counselor Association National Model (ASCA). The facilitator would introduce the idea of sharing as a form of gift-giving. The facilitator might provide some context for the choice of the book, including experiences with the story, appreciating the illustrations, and learning more about Native American culture. The facilitator would then close the group session, reviewing salient points, assigning homework, and covering necessary logistics.
