ABSTRACT

Substantial success rates are observed in OD applications on the Indian land mass and, again, this observation–which may surprise some readers–is explained in part in terms of a substantially good fit of the OD Work Ethic and the Hindu Work Ethic. Attributing a "work ethic" to any national jurisdiction requires tentativeness, and perhaps nowhere moreso than in the case of the Modern Hindu Work Ethic. Such potentialities add major doses of surprise and even ambiguity to assignments to the category "Modern Hindu Work Ethic," obviously. Two more specific features powerfully reinforce the provisional and approximate nature of the present description of one Indian subsystem of "the jewel in the crown," as the British emperialists once proudly proclaimed. First, as co-author Jadav always cautions, the "Modern Hindu" can come in almost-endlessly variegated forms. Second, and relatedly, such a potential for ambiguity makes it very chancy to estimate the people reasonably assignable to the category "Modern Hindu.".
