ABSTRACT

One tool that has emerged as a powerful intervention for the development of individual and team performance is business coaching or executive coaching. Translating these into team coaching, however, has proved a bit more challenging since the dynamic and approaches are quite different. Coaching therefore can also provide a vehicle for inspiring individuals and their teams to challenge their constraints and to explore new possibilities. Virtuous behaviours create positive emotions such as optimism, joy, pride, zest and enthusiasm which in turn may reproduce virtuousness and an elevation in well-being. Social capital is existence of positive interpersonal relationships among individuals, which facilitate virtues such as care giving, empathy and trust that in turn tend to build high quality relationships among team members. Resilience enhances the team's ability to absorb threat or trauma and to bounce back from adversity. Personal meaning is reflected in degree or extent to which individuals are prepared to take action or to stand up for a cause.
