ABSTRACT

Any surgery to the hip can be termed a preservation maneuver, or preserving the hip with we are born with. Looking at the evolution of hip surgery, various forms of osteotomy of the hips, hemiarthroplasties, surface replacement, and cementless and cemented total hip arthroplasties have replaced the conventional fixation of fractures of the hip. Arthroscopy of the hip joint plays a vital role, and the development of this “keyhole surgery” in sports medicine has opened a new horizon for orthopedic surgeons to subspecialize in, as well as cartilage restoration in early osteoarthritis of the hip joint in young patients.
