ABSTRACT
Historic houses open to the public complete with indigenous collections almost exclusively represent the elite homes of the past. Even where collections survive, the textile elements are the least likely to be complete, and they have suffered the effects of time often being a faded and threadbare specimen of their former glory. Gaining an understanding of the importance of textiles in the interiors of the past is therefore difficult to achieve.
