ABSTRACT

Board meetings are public, open meetings held to conduct the business of a school district. Contrary to the popular belief of some in local communities, board meetings are not town hall meetings. They are not intended to be meetings where the public arrives to demand actions and operational decisions better left to superintendents, principals, teachers, and staff members. It is very important to ensure that board meetings allow for the best decisions to be made, utilizing sound, rational, and logical deliberation on items, with respectful discussion. While at board meetings, board members should be extra mindful of relationships and of offering unconditional positive regard for the members of the community who are visiting. The structure of board meetings and how as Difference Makers, conduct ourselves in public require good business practices and healthy discussions. The meetings are not town hall events or public bloodlettings where every adult with an opinion has the right to filibuster.
