ABSTRACT

This chapter attempts to contribute to advancing e- human resource management /Human resource information systems (HRIS) research in the Indian context, and explores issues of outsourcing HR activities. It highlights the theoretical influence of human resources (HR) architecture on information technology (IT)-enabled HR and development from e-HR to HRIS. IT supports critical HR functions as recruitment, selection, benefits management, training, and performance appraisal, more effective distribution of work activities, increases in productivity and efficiency, and better tracking and sharing of information. The HR system automates the HR strategy and provides speed of response to internal customers within the firm and makes the system more efficient. HR executives view the process of outsourcing differently from purchasing, procurement and subcontracting. Practitioner-oriented literature, focusing on survey research design, investigates the technology-driven HR in both multinational and private sector organizations. Employees look at HRIS as something like an automated assembly line and are largely unaware of its decision support and analytical capabilities.
