ABSTRACT

Models of plants, utilizing water energy for fabrication of the electrical energy, such as run-of-the-river hydropower plants, ocean wave energy plants, and ocean tide energy plants are developed in this chapter. As for the first, models with the permanent magnet synchronous generators with variable rotational velocity and sensorless control are considered, including different optimization methods. The point absorber (PA) and oscillating water column (OWC) are investigated as the devices for transformation of the wave energy into the electrical energy. At this, the PA with various power take-off systems is simulated, including gear rack, magnetic transmission, hydraulic systems, and linear generators. As for the OWC, the models with Wells turbines and impulse turbines are simulated. When the ocean tide energy plants are under consideration, both the tidal power plants and tidal current plants are simulated. The conclusion section of the chapter deals with simulation of pump-storage power stations to store large amounts of electrical energy.
