ABSTRACT

In food security analysis, it is important not just to look at past and current food security outcomes, but also to identify groups or individuals who are at risk in the future. Risk management and vulnerability analysis are part of food security analysis. The identification of events that affect food security starts from the question of what the risk is that a particular segment of the population is vulnerable to facing food insecurity. This chapter provides the tools to do so. Risk management approaches are explored, a vulnerability framework including feedback from different elements of food systems is introduced and an overview of the main vulnerability measures is provided.
