ABSTRACT
With the emergence of fuzzy logic concepts, its signifi cance and application in digital image processing became evident. Prewitt is possibly the fi rst person to note the scope of incorporating the fuzzy set theoretic concepts in image processing. The application of fuzzy set theory in image processing took formal shape only in the 1980s with the pioneering research carried out by Pal et al. [25-29] and Rosenfeld [33,34].
