ABSTRACT

Grief is the intrapersonal response that occurs when an individual experiences a loss. Although the expression of one’s grief is unique to each person, grief is often influenced by such factors as age, culture, and previous experiences with loss (D’Antonio, 2011; Winokuer & Harris, 2012). Although the focus of this book is on sibling loss and the impact that the loss of a brother or sister has on the surviving siblings, it is critical to understand that when a parent or parents die, the potential impact on the surviving sibling can also be devastating.
