ABSTRACT

In the future, the majority of telecommunications installations and various terminal equipments will function as mobile units. Fiber optic cable technology is used on a minor scale in the telecommunications networks, but it is important to note that optical technology also has begun to be used in transatlantic submarine cable connections. The availability of digital circuits is a major precursor to the introduction of the Integrated Services Digital Network, which will benefit users by providing a single standard access to a wide range of telecommunications services. Conference of Posts and Telecommunications Administrations provides the European Community and European Free Trade Association countries with a forum for discussing and drafting future outlines for telecommunications policy. The rapid technological development occurring in both Eastern and Western Europe and new advances in information technology and telecommunications have had a great impact on the social structure of both types of societies.
