ABSTRACT

It is 16.00 hours, three hours went by since you had lunch, another three hours to go before having dinner: snack time! You walk to your local canteen and you see various kinds of chocolate bars and several kinds of fruits. What kind of process would predict the outcome of your choice in this situation? Sometimes, you might think carefully and base your decision on an analytical process, on the explicit weighing of the pros and cons of both decision alternatives. If healthiness is an important aspect of snacks to you, this might make you opt for an apple rather than a chocolate bar. On other occasions, you might act upon your first evaluative reaction towards the different options you can choose from, which might make chocolate bars the more likely chosen candidate for some of us, although others would still prefer an apple.
