ABSTRACT

One of the most common concerns within teacher training and newly qualified PE teachers is poor subject knowledge. This chapter outlines a variety of ways that subject knowledge can be improved, and attempts to encourage self-assessment of the reader’s subject knowledge needs. Guidance is included to support this self-assessment, accompanied by various sign-posts towards resources and strategies which can be used to improve knowledge in a wide range of practical activities. Emphasis is also made towards the need for all teachers to constantly review and assess their subject knowledge throughout their teaching career.
