ABSTRACT

A constant theme throughout the book is the notion that social exclusion and social inclusion have featured prominently in social policy initiatives. The positive reception of these concepts in the policy arena is not surprising, as they offer a multi-dimensional approach to understanding and tackling multiple forms of social deprivation. Social inclusion is particularly attractive to policymakers in terms of its objective of achieving social cohesion and integration in a rapidly changing and globalizing world (Liu et al. 2011).
