ABSTRACT

This chapter uses the showcase of the Taita Hills region to outline the impacts land management and tenure security can have on sustainable agriculture through its legal, personal, and communal dimensions. For data collection inside the research area, a diverse set of methods were used, ranging from map comparisons, interviews, and multi-criteria analysis to get a comprehensive picture of the prevalent tenure situation and applied agricultural methods used by small-scale farmers of the region. This chapter will give some possible smart solutions to overcome the problems of insecurity towards an increased tenure security in order to make sustainable decisions on land management.
