ABSTRACT

In the past years, several Indian fi rms, such as Tata Motors, Infosys, Reliance or Dr. Reddy’s, have become very successful not only in their home market but also internationally. Accordingly, the operations of these and other Indian fi rms have attracted the attention of management scholars worldwide (e.g. Kumar et al ., 2009; Cappelli et al ., 2010; Nayak, 2011; Kumar and Puranam, 2012). An important result of these case studies is that Indian fi rms often do not implement purely Western management concepts but are characterised by a unique management culture that is strongly infl uenced by indigenous Indian management philosophies.
