ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the various data transmission technologies, which are promising for the implementation of Industry 4.0 standards. Readers will be able to have a grasp of the terminologies, technologies, and requirements, which are associated with these technologies. Industrial data transmission is one of the significant aspects of enabling industrial IoT in legacy industrial setups as well as for deciding the structure and architecture of future plants and industrial complexes. Traditionally, industries have relied on field buses for communicating between various controllers and controlled devices. The role of Profibus is vital for industrial environments in ensuring the robust transition to automation processes from manual ones. As the typical industrial communications need transparent mechanisms for communications, which can proliferate along various organizational verticals as well as the horizontal too. The Foundation Fieldbus was developed as a replacement for industrial analog connections by the FieldComm Group.
