ABSTRACT

Infective diseases in the head and neck can be lifethreatening. Prompt localization of the infection and identification of the pathogen are necessary to direct appropriate antimicrobial treatment as early as possible. Although the diagnosis is often clear by physical

examination and clinical history, imaging is crucial in clearly localizing and defining the extent of the infection. Knowing the typical imaging patterns allows rapid and accurate diagnosis and guides subsequent therapeutic decisions.
